Chapter 3. The Communication Edge > The Sin of Being Dull

The Sin of Being Dull

“People will pay more to be entertained than educated.”

Johnny Carson

“When the teacher turns to the blackboard he yawns.”

Japanese Haiku by Isan

“Education doesn’t have to be fun, but it helps. When using humor to communicate information tell it serious, tell it funny, tell it serious.”

Jean Westcott

People often ask if it is necessary to use humor as a speaker. Professional speakers use humor because it works. Like it or not, we live in the entertainment age.
