Chapter 10. Review of Humor > Humor Keepers Worth Keeping

Humor Keepers Worth Keeping

Let’s take one more look at humor keepers that are worth keeping. Put a check mark next to the statements you most want to work on. Take the time to go back to sections and make a list of specific quotes and examples that illustrate and explain the concept. If you take time once a week to review that information you will have formed a new habit that will help you make humor work for you on the job.

Section I: Taking Your Job Seriously and Yourself Lightly

  • When humor is working, you laugh with people, not at them.

  • Don’t hide in humor; use it.

  • Take your job seriously and yourself lightly.

  • Take time to relive your humor history.

  • Work the funny side by using “the lifters” and “the poppers.”

  • Keep your humor history where you can find it—your laughter log, humor file, and humor album.

  • Trade Perfection, Procrastination, Paralysis for Practice, Practice, Practice.

  • Ask “Does it work?” not “Is it funny?”
