Humor Libraries to the Rescue

Develop a humor library of books and tapes. Pick a location where people can relax, get rejuventated and refreshed. Such places are usually bright spaces with cartoons, comic posters, books, board games, and popular audio and video tapes. In our highly stressful and competitive work environments we need rooms to help provide counterbalance. Make a list of the magazines that your staff likes, and make them available.

Humor Comes to the Rescue

Sometimes there’s no time to plan, and canned phrases can’t do the situation justice. When you cultivate the humor edge, the “poppers” will come when most needed.

One worker trying to bring humor into a boring low calorie lunch, ceremoniously faced a banana about to be devoured and said, “Prepare to die.”

In the face of unexpected turbulence, a worried first-time flyer asked an experienced flyer in the next seat, “Are we going to get down OK?” The answer was with a smile, “Well, to my knowledge, they’ve never left anyone up here.” Their laugh together helped break the tension.
