Chapter 6. Bridge Building > Build a Humor History For Your Organization

Build a Humor History For Your Organization

Look for humorous examples in memos, letters, meetings, and lunchroom gossip. Keep an album for your unit’s humor history. Make a humor bulletin board, or “laughter spot,” for workers to share cartoons, funny signs, anecdotes, and sayings. Save and share the best in your unit’s humor album.

EXAMPLES WORTH POSTING

Taken from actual advertisements and signs:

“Caution: Blade Extremely Sharp! Keep Out of Children!”

“Dog for sale, eats anything, especially fond of children.”

“Semi-Live Entertainment”

Taken from actual insurance accident forms:

“The guy was all over the road; I had to swerve a number of times before I hit him.”

“I pulled away from the side of the road, glanced at my mother-in-law, and headed over the embankment”

“The pedestrian had no idea which way to go, so I ran over him.”

Taken from actual welfare applications:

“Mrs. Jones hasn’t had any clothes for a year and has been visited regularly by the clergy.”

“ I am glad to report that my husband who is missing is dead.”

Taken from actual physician dictations:

“Patient died in his 90’s of female trouble in prostate and kidneys.”

“Discharge status: Alive but without permission.”

“Both the patient and the nurse herself reported passing flatus.”
