Chapter 6. Word Processing > Word-Processing Software

Word-Processing Software

As those of you who have been using word-processing software for some time already know, as you use your software more and more you will learn new things. The salesman who sold me my first computer kept telling me about the learning curve that's implicit in learning how to use the software. In the first several months you'll learn rapidly. After six months, you'll know probably 80 percent of what you'll ever have to know to use the software. Fortunately, software makers have developed word-processing software that is incredibly intuitive and relatively easy to master.

There are many different types of word-processing software packages available. If you are in a large business, chances are you'll probably be using the software that someone else chose. While some software programs are easier to use than others—either because the instructional literature is more clearly written, they don't involve many multiple-key hits to perform some function, or their bells and whistles are fancier—most word-processing software will get the job done when you want to use it for letter writing.
