Exercises

1: Watch the movie clip and then answer the following questions.

What is happening in the discussion?

What should you consider when arranging space for a small group?

2: In following scene, Benjamin (supervisor) and Laurie (subordinate) are planning the seating arrangements for a meeting with a large group.

Laurie: Everyone is going to be sitting at the table, correct?

Benjamin: That's right. I'm sure everyone will want to take notes on Mr. Dawson's presentation. Seating them at the table will give them a place to write.

Laurie: Okay, are the chairs set up like you want them?

Benjamin: Actually, since Mr. Dawson will be at the head of the table, let's move the chairs back a little bit farther. I assume he'll stand during his presentation, and by moving the rest of the chairs back a bit, it will balance things out somewhat better.

Laurie: That's a good idea. If the rest of the group is sitting closer together, they might not be as intimidated and will be more willing to ask questions.
