Rapport is a relationship of mutual trust. In any relationship, it is necessary for you to gain and maintain a sense of trust so that you can to communicate freely with one another. Without trust, communication is superficial at best and nonexistent at worst. You also need to establish your credibility to communicate effectively, which means you need to ensure that listeners respect and believe you.
