Chapter 30. Unit summary: Word choice

Topic A In this topic, you discussed the types of words to use in communication. The three types are words with specific meanings, familiar words, and words with the appropriate connotation. You also learned that you should avoid using redundant and slang expressions.
Topic B Next, you examined some of the words that are frequently misused, or mistakenly interchanged, with each other. To help differentiate between the words, you defined each word and examined sentences containing the correct use of the words.
Topic C In this topic, you discussed some common spelling errors. You learned some rules to help avoid misspelling words containing “ie” and “cede.”
Topic D Finally, you attached prefixes and suffixes to words. You learned how a prefix and suffix can change a word’s meaning as well as how its spelling changes.
