Chapter 37. Homonyms

Explanation

Homonymsare words that sound the same and are frequently spelled the same, but are different in meaning as shown in Exhibit 9-3. It is important to understand how to use homonyms and spell them correctly. For example, although the contraction “it’s” and the pronoun “its” sound and look the same, they are used for entirely different purposes. Understanding that “it’s” is the contraction form of “it is” enables you to use the word correctly.
