Types of fragments

Look for the following types of fragments:

  • Missing information: These fragments need more information to be complete sentences. The reader or listener is often left wondering what happened.

  • Extra information: When writing a sentence, include all of the relevant information. As shown in the example below, add the extra information to the first sentence to make a complete sentence.

  • Missing subject: All sentences must include a subject. If a fragment is missing a subject, either add it or combine the sentence with another sentence.

  • Missing verb: All sentences must also include a verb. If a fragment is missing a verb, either add it or combine the sentence with another sentence.
