Dashes

Explanation

A dash is used to set words or phrases apart from the rest of a sentence in an abrupt manner. Dashes are used effectively to imply urgency or enthusiasm or to give emphasis. To correctly type a dash, type two short dash marks (--) with no spaces directly between the words they are joining. For example, “You are right—the meeting is in the conference room—not in Mr. Brown’s office.
