Brackets

Brackets are used to show changes in or additions to quoted material. For example, consider the following sentence: “I was very pleased with the [administrative policy] changes that were implemented this year,” said Dale Burton. The brackets in this sentence indicate that the words “administrative policy” were added to Dale Burton’s quotation.
