Chapter 11. Develop an introduction > Establish credibility

Establish credibility

It is important to establish your credibility in the introduction of your presentation because the audience will be more likely to listen to your message if they feel you are qualified to speak on the topic. Therefore, you need to share with the audience the knowledge, personal experience, or professional experience you have that is relevant to the topic.

To share your qualifications, you should list them and relate them to your topic. You’ll want to appear confident, but not arrogant. It is possible that you might not have first-hand experience with the topic. If your knowledge comes from research you have done or from interviews you have conducted, you should share these sources with your audience.
