It was time to go home: Susan James was tired. The outline of her latest quarterly report, which she had worried about the day before, was harder to fill than she had anticipated. Although she was still pleased with her decision not to report an “extraordinary achievement,” she nevertheless had to show that her group had indeed made progress, especially in meeting the Engineering Department's needs. And that progress would still depend largely on Engineering's request for a new crane and Jones and Son's attractive bid—especially in terms of time—since this company could have the crane in place and operating in forty-eight hours.
