Sample Outline for a Manual

Bob Hanley's manual for his administrative assistant will succeed if he follows the principles of consistent formatting, attention to readability, and clear organization. Although we don't need to include the text of a whole manual here, we can certainly outline topics for it (see Figure 9.1). Even in this outline, we can see attention to signaling the reader through repetition of key words and phrases, such as “applicants,” “overview,” and “current,” and good summary-level chapter titles.
