Fundamentals of a Completion Report

Purpose and Rationale

There are basically two kinds of completion reports: those written for an audience in the private sector (sometimes called final reports) and those written for a more academic, research-oriented audience (sometimes called research reports). They both fulfill the same purposes:

  • To define and/or address professional problems

  • To explain what work was done to solve or address the problems

  • To conclude what the work ultimately means and what its significance is

  • To make recommendations for future work, if necessary
