Technical Problem Solving and Planning

The decision about how to communicate with each other was not taken lightly by the team. Adrian knew that there were times, such as when the team was trying to develop a common understanding of what they needed to accomplish, that it was important to ensure as rich communication as possible. For that reason, at the project kickoff meeting, everyone, with the exception of Tony, met face-to-face. Such meetings are often held during the technical problem solving and planning stage of a collaborative effort.

Using FTF Meetings Effectively

Face-to-face meetings are important in any collaborative effort. Although groups can work effectively without ever meeting together in the same place, it appears to take longer for the group to develop cohesion if some form of technology mediates all communication. Face-to-face meetings serve important functions, including both social and task-related functions:
