Basics of Collaboration

The basics of collaboration assume that some problems can be solved only with the joint efforts of several people and that any resulting document or documents will have been produced for several reasons:

  • Preparation of the document may require expertise that exceeds that of a single person.

  • The document may be a formal report regarding a group's efforts in a particular area (e.g., a project report), and the stakes may be too high to leave responsibility for writing to only one person.

  • The writing task may simply be too large for one person to complete in the time allotted.
