Seasonal Lifecycle

Seasonality is defined as naturally occurring periods of much higher or lower sales during the year. Many retailers make the majority of their sales during the Christmas season and use the cash flow generated from September through December to fund their operations during the remainder of the year. In the services sector, accounting firms experience high volumes of sales during tax preparation season. In the food industry, beef consumption reaches a peak during the summer barbeque season and drops to a low point during the winter, affecting cash flows in this business. In the home improvement business, spring and summer are high seasons with some variation depending on the weather in different areas of the country.

What’s considered urgent and important changes as managers cope with seasonal hiring, production, distribution, advertising, and other business fluctuations.
