Roles and Competencies for Training

Research done by Dixon, Conway, Ashley, and Stewart for the Ontario Society for Training and Development (1995) identified the following five “competency clusters” or roles that are important for trainers:

  1. analyzing performance needs

  2. designing training

  3. instructing-facilitating

  4. evaluating training

  5. coaching the application of training.
