Be a Good Host

Extend invitations at least three days before the event.

Ask about any dietary requirements and respect them.

Make a restaurant reservation and ensure that the restaurant offers enough options so that dietary restrictions can be observed while giving your guests ample food choices.

Confirm the date, time, location, and directions with your guests when reservations are made and again on the day before the meal.

Inform guests of any dress requirements.

Make payment arrangements with the restaurant before the meal.

Arrive before your guests.

Direct guests to their seats and seat the most important person to your right.

Don’t discuss business until the end of the meal.

Be prepared to make small talk about current events, entertainment, literature, sports, etc., but avoid controversial topics.

Never set laptops, briefcases, or files on the table until all food and plates have been removed.

Unless you are on call, turn off your cell phone and pager during the meal.
