Chapter 21. Network Like a Pro

Networking is not just socializing, although many networking opportunities come from social activities. Networking is socializing with others to make business connections for the mutual benefit of both. Effective professionals know how to make things happen because they know the right people. Good networking gives you a valuable circle of people from whom to seek information and support.

You probably have more contacts than you realize. Imagine yourself as the hub of a wheel, surrounded by spokes of contacts. List every key person you know and every organization you belong to in a graphic similar to the one below. Make sure your list includes anyone or any organization that can help you succeed in business. Establish a goal to contact at least three people on your list each week and to maintain your network.
