Note Your Surroundings

It is easier to build a positive image and rapport if you can find common areas of interest with the interviewer. While most interviewers will not admit to biases, all have them. Upon entering the interviewer’s office, note the pictures, posters, photographs, or degrees on the wall. Look for signs of hobbies, favorite vacation spots, and so on. Use any theme to your advantage by mentioning that you too went to “State U,” or your last vacation was in Hawaii, or that you also display pictures of your favorite golf course.
