Part I: Preparation > Researching the Company

Chapter 2. Researching the Company

As you follow the instructions in this book, it will be helpful to find an advertisement for a job you’d like to have. Look in your local newspaper or on the Internet. You’ll use this ad to conduct a real scenario of how to apply for the advertised position. You’ll also use the ad to write a practice cover letter and revise your résumé.

The first step in preparing a job application and anticipating the interview questions is research. Check your library for past newspaper articles on the company. Call the company switchboard and ask for copies of the annual report and other public documents. And go to the company’s Web site if one exists.
