Imagine Olympic Games where athletes win the contests but only their coaches appear on the winner’s platform and get the medals. When employees are closely supervised, something similar happens—the supervisor gets recognized for “making things happen.”

In the Olympic Games scenario, imagine the effect on the athletes’ morale and performance. As you can imagine, the athlete’s attitude would be, “Why bother if someone else is going to get the credit for my pain, struggle and hard work?”
