Chapter 43. CASE STUDY: WHEN NEEDS ARE NOT MET

Genevieve received a medical degree from the National University of Haiti. With the help of her church she was able to enter the United States through an exception granted to immigrants who possess technical and professional skills needed in the U.S.

Genevieve took the standard U.S. examination for people who attended a foreign medical school, but failed. She was told that she was close to passing, but that English—which she had just learned in college—was her great weakness. This was visible on the exam by how she answered, or was unable to answer, some of the questions.
