Chapter 22. Balancing Productivity and Human Relations

Your primary goal during your first thirty days should be to achieve the best possible balance between high productivity and good human relations.

It is a goal that should remain with you throughout your career. In the diagram below, notice that the employee in the middle has increased his or her productivity to above average while at the same time establishing a strong relationship with the supervisor (vertical relationship) and good working relationships with two coworkers (horizontal relationships). Keeping the vertical and horizontal relationships at high levels, and in balance, is the key to career success.
