Part I: Preparation > The Challenge!

Chapter 3. The Challenge!

When you join a new organization (or move into a new assignment) you become the “new kid on the block.” This means that all eyes will be upon you until you are accepted as a member of your new team. During this period regular employees (including superiors) will observe your behavior. They will be looking for answers to the following questions:

How long will it take you to carry a full share of the work load? Are your skills up to par? Will you pitch in and help others? Will you be on the job every day?

Will you be human-relations “smart”? That is, will you be sensitive to the needs of those ahead of you? Will you side with coworkers who are negative, or will you play it cool and treat everyone the same way?

How successful will you be at winning over those coworkers and superiors who are critical? Will you know how to handle their testing? Will you be able to stand your ground and win the respect of coworkers and superiors alike?
