Chapter 2. Creating Your Portfolio > Assemble The Contents

Step #4:. Assemble The Contents

Shop your stationery, office supply and art supply stores for materials. The generic list of ingredients will give you some ideas. Choose your materials based on the image you want to achieve.

Recipe for Success

INGREDIENTS

1 3-ring binder (approximately 1 inch)[*]
20 to 30 3-hole drilled mylar sheet protectors
1 pkg. 4 or 5 cut divider tabs (optional)
4 or 5 colors of paper—enough sheets to use for backing and color strips
4 or 5 colors of tape (optional)
1 labeling machine or laser printer w/label software
1 3-hole drilled plastic holder for diskettes (optional)
1 or 2 diskettes
1 pkg. laser-transfer foil to make customer borders or covers (optional)
1 pkg. colored dots or other highlighters (optional)
3 or 4 copies of examples to keep behind the originals
  sharp scissors
  transparent tape
Post-it tape (white removable tape that has the sticky qualities of Post-it notes)
  glue
  ruler

[*] Use binders covered in cloth, leather, vinyl or those that allow a cover sheet to be slipped into a pocket. Insta-Cover Display Books have the mylar sheet protectors permanently bound and come in a variety of sizes, including those with six, 12 and 20 pockets. The standard size 8–1/2?×11? binder is most common. Smaller sizes may not display materials well. Larger sizes may be awkward to carry.
