Chapter 2. Types of Interviews > The Selection Interview

The Selection Interview

This is the critical interview during which the employer will evaluate your work and school history, your determination and goals, what motivates you, your potential, and so on. While some of the more concrete elements such as school and work history can be presented on paper, the interviewer’s perception of your personality traits will be determined by what you say and do. In other words, the selection interview is your chance to shine and the employer’s chance to make decisions about you. It will be the most detailed and in-depth interview you have.

The selection interview can be conducted by either a recruiter or another employee of the employment department or by the manager of the department in which you’re hoping to work. Whoever does the interviewing, expect this type of interview to be probing and wide-ranging.
