The Alliance Dance

For many years I naively thought meetings were about the agenda on the paper. I also believed that decisions were made in meetings, rather than in get-togethers before or after the meeting. The topics might seem obvious, but sometimes the real reasons for a meeting are hidden, so prepare with care.

Once, when I was working for a network-owned television station, the company was taken over by another and such a meeting occurred. I had been with this station for two years and had been promoted to a new position only months before the takeover. It was the case of a smaller company taking over a classic network and the smaller company was insinuating its culture quickly, overtly and in a conquering (not assimilating) manner.
