Part II: Excel, Execute, Enjoy! > Preparing for Your Annual Review: Managing Yo...

Chapter 19. Preparing for Your Annual Review: Managing Your Value Perception

Most companies conduct annual reviews to keep you and your management in sync regarding perception and growth. The time spent will inform you about the current level of recognition of your work, offer a discussion about your future, and reflect any changes in compensation. Although there might be opportunities throughout the year for casual mentoring with your management, the annual review will go into your file; it is important and will speak about you to people you don’t know personally. The review might be pulled if you are under consideration for a promotion, if you have a change in management, or if you are in a trouble spot with your management. Time and consideration before the meeting will go a long way toward assisting your own advocacy efforts.
