Part II: Excel, Execute, Enjoy! > How Can You Affect the Company’s Margin?

Chapter 12. How Can You Affect the Company’s Margin?

Incorporating the attributes of a profit contributor into your awareness and daily activity will enhance your value to the organization. Dollars saved can strengthen the research and development of new products, create new jobs, and be invested in capital improvements that will enhance the company’s competitive standing, your job security, and the economy.

You can start by understanding the goal in the big-picture sense and then relating it to your own microview of your daily responsibilities. By finding ways of tying the macro (big picture) and micro (your desk) objectives together you will be delivering work that meets company goals in the fullest possible sense. By creating personal goals and measures and through awareness of your own processes, you will become a more conscious and efficient worker, and thus more valuable to the company. You could develop new standards for the entire organization by creating processes that measurably strengthen the road toward successful goal execution. This will bode well for you in many ways: for your heightened value as a visionary, thinker, and leader in the organization and for your own sense of fulfillment and entrepreneurship. All of the following suggestions could end up as real contributions and great additions to your champion and annual review files.
