Personal Statement

Social work is not only a profession—it is also a commitment to social change, to client empowerment, and to addressing difficult and challenging issues that individuals, families, and communities face. As a social worker, I face daily professional and personal trials and challenges, and I must have a firm foundation on which to base my practice.

As I have learned through graduate studies and work experience, it is very important to have effective interaction and communication skills when working with clients and their families. It is also crucial to be organized and responsible, and to manage time well. I am continuing to learn to respond empathetically to clients, and I try to place myself in clients' shoes to truly understand their needs, values, and goals.
