Chapter 8. Reviewing Travel Tales of Previous Journeys
or Examples of Self-Leadership in Practice

Let everyone sweep in front of [their] own door and the whole world will be clean.

—Goethe

Many examples of applications of the self-leadership ideas brought together in this book are available. An attempt will be made here to present some of these examples. Thousands of participants in our training workshops and college courses have applied strategies presented in this book to their own problems and challenges according to their own self-designed plans. These many experiences formed the basis for many of the examples shared throughout. The purpose of this chapter is to provide further real-life support for the argument that self-leadership techniques and strategies offer many potential benefits when effectively and systematically practiced. The discussion will touch briefly on three categories of self-leadership application: (1) personal problems, (2) athletics, and (3) organizational/work problems. Applications to personal problems and athletics will be briefly discussed before addressing the primary focus of this book: organizational/work/school challenges. Hopefully, the combination of these different types of applications will provide a better picture of the wide applicability and potential of self-leadership strategies.
