Chapter 10. Selecting Objects > Selection Set Filters

Selection Set Filters

Selection sets, which are defined as drawing objects chosen to be edited, can be created by clicking a single object or a group of objects. Likewise, selection sets can also be created by filtering the drawing based on a particular object property, such as its color or linetype. This chapter discusses in detail the different ways to create selection sets and how to save them so they can be applied to multiple drawings. Let's start with looking at the different types of selection filters.

Two of the filters listed here, Window and Crossing, are essentially the default filters—both are automatically available at any Select objects prompt. To create a selection set using either of these filters, first pick a starting corner for the selection window; then you can easily decide which filter you want, depending on which way you drag the cursor. If you drag the cursor to the right, the Window selection set filter is activated. When the cursor is dragged to the left, the Crossing filter can be used to select objects. If you want to use a more specific type of filter, access the remaining filters by typing question mark (?) at a Select objects prompt.
