Chapter 22. External Database Connection > Accessing External Data with dbConne...

Accessing External Data with dbConnect

Since Release 12 and the introduction of AutoCAD SQL Extension (ASE), AutoCAD users have had the capability to connect to external databases. This capability has been greatly expanded throughout the years and has been enhanced considerably within AutoCAD 2000. What was previously accomplished using numerous commands is now accomplished using a single command called dbConnect. With this feature, you can easily connect to external databases, view and edit row information within tables, and create queries to search for information linked to drawing objects to create selection sets.

Tip 207 from

dbConnect now replaces the ASE commands available in older versions of AutoCAD. The AutoCAD Migration Assistant can convert data within older drawing files to the new format for use in AutoCAD 2000.

→ See Appendix C, "AutoCAD Migration Assistance," for more information on how to convert files linked to a database using ASE to the new database connection format.
