Chapter 14. Dimensioning > Dimensioning with Style

Dimensioning with Style

Since AutoCAD Release 12, the Dimension Style command (dimstyle) and the Dimension Style dialog box have been available to users. However, the earlier versions of this command and interface were limited in versatility and were somewhat confusing in terminology. With each subsequent release of AutoCAD, the features available and the functionality of the dialog box have consistently improved. Click the Dimension Style button—at the far right on the Dimension toolbar—to take a quick look at the new Dimension Style Manager.

The AutoCAD 2000 Dimension Style Manager (shown in Figure 14.10) provides a user interface that is easy to comprehend and to use. Dimension settings are organized into groups of intuitively similar settings via a tabbed interface. Additionally, the Dimension Style Manager provides realistic and immediate visual feedback on any features selected so you can make valid decisions without exiting back and forth into AutoCAD. For your first new dimension style, you will make a few modifications to the existing Standard style and save these changes as My Standard.
