About the Authors

Ron House has more than 12 years of working experience with AutoCAD including help-desk support, training, application development, and consulting. He has presented hundreds of AutoCAD seminars to audiences on varying disciplines, including the initial rollouts of Release 13 and 14 in the Kansas City area. As an Autodesk Certified Instructor, Ron has taught AutoCAD to students throughout the United States and from Russia and Mexico. He has been a beta tester of AutoCAD since Release 12 and has recently beta-tested Autodesk's Actrix Technical and Volo View software; he is currently testing the Mapguide 5.0 software product.

Ron has also served as adjunct professor at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, where he has taught all levels of AutoCAD, 3D, customizing, AutoLISP, and engineering classes. Ron is currently the GIS\CAD Supervisor in the Real Estate Technology Group at Sprint, and he is considered the resident expert on AutoCAD and the Autodesk Mapguide products. Ron holds a B.S. in Architectural Engineering from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.

Paul W. Richardson has 18 years of experience in the CAD industry. During the past 12 years, he has specialized in AutoCAD programming (AutoLISP and VBA), creating productivity tools and CAD Standards automation applications. Recent projects include San Francisco Basemap (GIS) Project and CADD Standards Development project. He is the co-author of the AutoCAD 13 Instant Reference and Mastering AutoCAD LT and has contributed to Mastering AutoCAD 14 and an online version of the classic ABC's of AutoLISP.

John Brooks is a product designer who hails from London, England, and now resides permanently in the United States. John has worked in the electronics industry for almost 30 years—designing products for the consumer, computer, and communications industries. He has used many different manufacturing techniques such as molding, casting, and sheet metal. His experience has been gained working as a Consultant Designer on three continents (Europe, North America, and Asia). Part of John's work has involved evaluating CAD and 3D CAD systems and advising companies on how 3D technology will improve their productivity and which system is best suited for their needs.

John now lives close to Kansas City—in Smithville, Missouri—where he runs his own consultancy business called Designs Midwest Inc. He is also the Director of Engineering for a large multinational telecommunications company based in Kansas City.

Dylan Vance has worked in the computer industry for the last eight years in such areas as technical support, quality assurance, and product design. He is the author of Inside Autodesk World and the forthcoming Inside AutoCAD Map. Dylan currently works for Autodesk in the GIS Solutions Division.
