Summary

In this chapter, you reviewed how to use the ODBC Data Source Administrator provided by the Windows operating system to enable AutoCAD to access data in external databases. You learned how to use the Data Link Properties dialog box to create a .udl configuration file, which points to a file’s location. You used the dbConnect Manager to access external database tables, and you used the Data View window to view and edit the information in tables. You learned how to link data to AutoCAD objects and how to label objects with data extracted from external database tables. Finally, you learned how to execute queries and query for objects either in AutoCAD drawings or in tables.

By using the techniques discussed in this chapter, you can associate external database files with your AutoCAD drawings and use the tools provided by AutoCAD to work with the data stored in database tables.
