Chapter 33. Advanced Customization > Creating Custom Toolbars

Creating Custom Toolbars

Creating new toolbars is an effective way to customize your AutoCAD interface and increase your efficiency. You might want to create a new toolbar that groups the tools you use most frequently. This not only saves time in selecting tools but also saves space in the drawing area because you do not need to keep several toolbars open. After it is created, new toolbars behave as standard toolbars and can be hidden or displayed in either a docked or a floating position on the screen.

Toolbars that you create can have two general types of tools: existing icons, representing existing tools from other toolbars, and icons that you create, representing new macros that you define. Both types of tools can be placed on the same toolbar. In this respect, custom toolbars are similar to new or modified pull-down menus that you might add to AutoCAD’s basic menu bar. Toolbars, however, have the added advantage of being able to be placed anywhere in the drawing area or even hidden from view.
