Chapter 24. Using External Databases > Working with Data and Objects

Working with Data and Objects

AutoCAD allows you to create a link between records in a database table and objects in a drawing. Once you have established a link between an object and a record, you can use the link to locate objects by selecting the records to which they are attached, or to locate records in a table by selecting objects in a drawing. Additionally, you can extract the data values stored in a table and automatically insert it as a text label that is attached to its linked object. By using AutoCAD’s ability to link data to objects, you can quickly locate linked objects and records and easily label objects by extracting the data to which they are linked.

Linking Data to AutoCAD Objects

AutoCAD provides a feature that allows you to connect data stored in external database files to objects in drawings. Using this feature, you can select a single record in a table and associate it to a graphic object in a drawing. With this feature, you can create links between the graphic objects in a drawing and the data stored in database tables.
