Creating Command Aliases

The most basic type of AutoCAD customization involves creating command aliases, which are one- or two-key combinations that provide a “shortcut” keyboard access to an AutoCAD command. Command aliases offer a powerful way to increase your productivity. For example, when you work with AutoCAD, one of your hands is almost always on the mouse or tablet puck. Because one hand is free for typing, command aliases offer a quick, alternate way to initiate commands.

After they are started, many AutoCAD commands offer one or more options or sub-commands that are answered with short one- or two-letter keyboard entries. The PEDIT command is a case in point. After you start the PEDIT command and select a polyline, AutoCAD presents the following options at the command line:
