Part V: Effects and Mixing >  Using MIDI Effects

Chapter 17. Using MIDI Effects

Real-time MIDI effects come in a variety of types. Some are of the fix-and-edit variety, such as Quantize or Transpose, and others are of the creative-manipulation variety, such as Arpeggiator and Delay. The advantage of making these functions operate as effects is that they leave the original MIDI data completely intact, working their magic in real time, so you can change your mind at any time about any aspect of the effect. In this chapter you will learn how to:

  • Fix rhythms with real-time quantization

  • Change keys by transposing

  • Reign in dynamics with velocity

  • Use the Arpeggiator

  • Create echoes and delays
