Chapter 4 . Digital Samplers and the Rex File Loop Player

Chapter 4 . Digital Samplers and the Rex File Loop Player

A sampler works by recording a small piece of an instrument’s sound and then allowing you to play that recording back from a keyboard. These devices used to be big, bulky, and very expensive; however, samplers have since evolved into many different shapes and forms. Samplers are becoming software based, allowing your computer to become the equivalent of a hardware-based sampler. Reason comes equipped with two such software samplers. In addition to these samplers, you also have a loop player. A loop player will play back recordings of drum beats that play in a continuous loop, and loop players are helpful when building the rhythm foundation of your songs. In this chapter, you’ll learn how to:

Work with the NN19 Digital Sampler.

Work with the NN-XT Advanced Digital Sampler.

Work with the Dr:rex Loop Player.
