Chapter 8. Advanced Audio Routing with Effects > Connecting Effects as Inserts

Connecting Effects as Inserts

When you wish to apply effects to your sound module devices, there are two possible routing methods: Insert mode and Send mode. I’ll discuss Insert mode first. In this mode, the effect is “inserted” between the sound module and the mixer so that all the audio from the sound module passes through the effect device before being routed to the mixer. In this mode, the inserted effect will be applied only to the sound module to which it is connected.

Loading the Devices

To learn how to route audio to an effect using the insert, you’ll first need to load some devices into an empty rack.
