THE FOUR FLAVORS OF BLANK MEDIA When it comes to selecting blank discs, you should be aware of the four types of discs available. It is important to be able to tell the difference, because you might possibly purchase the wrong kind and cost yourself another trip to Wal-Mart. CD-R--This is the standard blank media used to burn music and data CDs. These blank CDs can be burned one time only. This is also called "disc at once." I recommend using this media. CD-RW--This is the next level up from the CD-R. These discs can be burned and erased several times, making them very useful for backing up files on your computer. However, they are almost useless as music CDs, because most home and car stereo systems will not play them. DVD-R--These blank discs are for use with DVD players and burners. They hold incredibly large amounts of data--up to 4GB, in fact. However, as with CD-RWs, these discs are not compatible with most home and car stereo systems. DVD-RW--These blanks are the same as DVD-Rs, but they can be used over and over again, just as with CD-RWs. But they carry the same restrictions as DVD-Rs. Make sure you have all the parts so you can start to burn, baby, burn!
