Chapter 5. RECORDING VOCALS AND OTHER IN... > SETTING GARAGEBAND'S INPUT LEVELS

SETTING GARAGEBAND'S INPUT LEVELS

Nothing is more critical to the quality of your recording as setting proper audio recording levels. Repeat this phrase in your head until it becomes your mantra.

Setting up your Mac's audio input levels as well as setting the input levels and Audio preferences in GarageBand are pretty much the same for microphones as for guitars. You can refer to the sections “Configuring Your Mac's Sound Input Settings,” “Setting the Input Volume of an External Audio Interface,” and “Setting GarageBand's Audio Preferences” in Chapter 4, “Recording Your Guitar” to review how we set up levels for guitar. Also take a look at Appendix B's section “Hooking a Microphone Directly to Your Mac.”
