Chapter 2. Working with Songs > About Song Length

About Song Length

When you create a new song using the default 4/4 time signature, its length is automatically (and arbitrarily) set to 90 measures (down from 200 in GarageBand 1). But if you set the time signature of your new song to 3/4, it will be 120 measures long. So, in truth, the default length of a new GarageBand song is 360 beats (90 measures × 4 beats per measure, or 120 measures × 3 beats per measure). If you record regions that extend beyond this limit, more measures are automatically added to accommodate the new material. When you export your song to iTunes, GarageBand includes only the measures up to the end of the final region in the song. In other words, if your last region ends at measure 64 but the song ends at 90, GarageBand trims the 26 empty measures from the end of the song. (More about this in Chapter 13.) You can also adjust the length of the song manually.
