Working with the Results List

Whether you use the button view or the column view to sort GarageBand's loops, the loops that make it through the winnowing process are listed in the results list, at the right side of the loop browser (Figure 4.34). The number of loops in the list is shown to the right of the text search field.

By default, the loops found are listed alphabetically by name. Other columns show the original tempo and key and the length, measured in beats, of each loop. There's also a check box that allows you to designate loops you like as “favorites.” Each listing includes an icon that distinguishes Real Instrument loops (a blue waveform) from Software Instrument loops (a green eighth note). You can re-sort this list using any of the columns and invert any column's sorting order.

If you want to listen to a loop before plopping it into your song, click its name in the list. And when you're ready to add a loop to your composition, you drag it from this list into the timeline.
